Nailsworth is another old market town nearby and lies at the bottom of one of the surrounding valleys, about 1.5 miles by road. Nailsworth has recently grown in popularity with discerning shoppers and now offers an exceptional choice of quality retail outlets such as a delicatessen also selling the finest fresh fish, an award winning independent baker, two butchers' shops, quality pubs and restaurants as well as a small hotel built in a former corn mill. There are two traditional hardware shops, a florist, hairdressers and several other quality outlets as well as two supermarkets serving both local residents and Nailsworth's increasing number of visitors. A little further a field is Stroud, a larger town offering additional though more conventional facilities such as DIY stores, a multi-screen cinema, tenpin bowling alley, a leisure centre and several large supermarkets. Its fortnightly farmers' market has set a gold standard for lovers of both regional and organic produce. More details are available from the STROUD TOWN web site.
The old Roman town of Cirencester (named Corinium by the Romans), 7 miles east of Box, offers an interesting and attractive alternative.

For city shopping, Gloucester (Roman Glevum) is 12 miles and Cheltenham Spa is about 18 miles. The South West's capital city, Bristol, is 30 miles away by road but offers almost every facility including a thriving airport. The Georgian spa city of Bath Spa is a similar distance and deservedly continues to act as a magnet for tourists and shoppers in search of something a little different to the rest.
