BOX COMPUTER AND DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
Box has its own computer club, recently extended to include Digital Photography, designed to provide mutual benefit to its members in the area of home and small business computing, exploring both hardware and software. The Club meets every four weeks on a Friday evening between 7.30 and 7.45 pm for a chat over coffee/tea followed by a talk at 8.00 pm.
Besides the monthly meetings, free use of the Village Hall's wireless broadband connection is offered to members, and technical assistance can be requested from other members. In addition, various spare computers and computer equipment is sometimes available on loan.
The Committee voted into office on 28th March 2008 is shown below:
Chairman - Steve Hemmings, 1 Baycroft, Box
Secretary/Treasurer - Ivy Witts, 3 Almond Cottages, Box

NOTE: You will see that most evenings begin with an informal chat prior to a talk or demo. Those who have laptops are encouraged to bring them along so that problems or topics of interest can be shared in small groups. This is your club, please make the most of it.
Subscriptions paid in advance to Ivy Witts will entitle the member to free access to ALL Club events. Visitors are welcome to attend any of the talks on payment of £3 per session. Cheques should be made payable to Box Computer Club.
The concept of the Club is very much a hands on approach. There will be opportunities to use Broadband on the Internet as well as experience a number of software packages. When possible experts will give formal talks or demonstrations and it is hoped that all levels of skill will attend, as it was shown clearly at the inaugural meeting that one person might know a great deal about one package whilst knowing nothing of another. In order to improve our knowledge these “experts” should be able to mutually help each other.
A Friday morning “Cyber Cafe” is also offered from time to time, and the Committee are still gauging the level of interest for such a facility. It means, for example, that those who have only dial-up internet facilities at home (or none at all) can use the Broadband connection at the Hall to communicate with relatives or friends overseas, sending photos or downloading other large files and software updates.
If you would like to get involved in this venture please contact me on 01453 832908 or call at 1, Baycroft for a chat.
