Box Players

History

Box Players is an amateur dramatic group formed in the early 1990s since which time they have put on regular performances in Box Village Hall, beginning with musical shows and progressing to annual pantomimes from 2001 onwards. The main core of the Players comes from Box village but over the years has also included performers from the surrounding area – Stroud, Minchinhampton, Nailsworth and Rodborough. Rehearsals take place between January and March leading to public performances around mid-March.

Audiences are mainly from the local area but often include visitors from as far afield as Devonshire and Kent. Performances are recorded on video and more recently DVD.

Current plans

Following the successful production of the pantomime “Rumpelstiltskin” in March 2019, the Annual General Meeting of the Box Players group will take place in Box Village Hall on Friday 10 May at 7.30 pm. Plans and ideas for future events in the Summer will be discussed and a date set for a first read through of the script of “Jack and the Beanstalk” with a view to another production in March 2020. Anyone interested in taking part in acting, backstage, costumes, music and other associated activities or simply getting to know the group will be welcome.
