BOX GARDENING CLUB
The Gardening Club welcomes all villagers to take part in its programme of events for 2012. We have around 60 members and are always happy to see new ones. You don’t have to be a plant expert in any way! There is something for every level of skill and interest.
Our new programme of speakers for 2012 is listed below. These events are for everyone, whether a member or not. To help with costs there is a charge of £5 for non-members.

Feb 21st Arthur Ball: Birds in your Garden
Includes information on garden birds, how to attract them, nest boxes, ponds, etc. An expert photographer, Arthur has been a voluntary warden at the Dowdeswell Reservoir, near Charlton Kings, for 36 years.
March 20th Val Bourne: How to Grow Vegetables Organically
Val is an award-winning garden writer, photographer and lecturer who gardens on the wind-swept Cotswolds at Spring Cottage, high above Bourton-on-the-Water. She writes for The Daily Telegraph, Saga Magazine and many others.
April 17th Roger Umpelby: Bugs – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Roger is a keen gardener and a passionate plant and nature lover who enjoys sharing his love and respect for the natural world. He is also a professional entomologist and horticulturalist with many years experience of consultancy and research in the horticultural industry.

Sept 18th Paul Hervey-Brookes: The Winter Garden
Paul runs a landscape & garden design practice and is co-owner of a specialist herbaceous nursery, Box Court Garden Plants, which is located at the Rococo Garden, Painswick.
“The garden can sometimes be a solitary place in the lean months and certainly not a place to linger. This is an illustrated talk demonstrating a series of unusual and interesting winter plants which make you want to go outside when the weather says ‘stay indoors’.”
Oct 16th Dr. G. B. Hargreaves: The Villa Gardens of Northern Italy Last year we were stunned by George’s photography and by his knowledge of plants
and ‘The Plant Hunters’. This presentation promises to be equally informative and engaging.
Nov 20th Tiggy Lessner: Designing your Garden
Tiggy will describe the process she goes through with a client when asked to design a garden:
“As a designer, I'm very client orientated. I start with the inside of their house, the layout, the decor and how they live: is the house rambling/simply laid out; do they like strong/monochrome colours; are they tidy/not particularly etc. Then I go on to what they'd like, what could work and what would fit with the landscape”.
