BOX ART GROUP

Box Art Group was formed in 1983 and was inspired by our Founder, the late Edward Payne, renowned for his Stained Glass Windows. He had his studio in the village and his love of art in all its aspects was infectious. He encouraged all who joined the Group to develop their own individual style.
We meet each week from September to May on a Thursday afternoon from 2.00 to 4.45 pm. Box Art Group enjoys a variety of activities each week and our members are involved in portrait painting, still life and free work. The Portrait Group makes use of volunteer sitters and these are available most weeks. When the weather allows we can paint in the lovely surroundings of Box Village itself. Free work is usually based on working from photographs, sketches or other sources. Our members use most of the available media including watercolour, pastel, acrylic, oils and drawing with charcoal, pencil or pen and ink. We hold an annual exhibition in the Village Hall.
We do not struggle to work alone! One of our resident tutors is available each week to help with advice and constructive criticism. In addition there are regular competitions which inspire better work and give a good deal of fun! Two or three times a term we have workshops or demonstrations led by visiting tutors. These are usually professional artists who can guide us further in our work. From time to time we have coach excursions to major exhibitions or galleries.
